Stand Alone Power Systems

The rapid technological advances in Stand Alone Power Systems and reduced pricing in solar panels has now enabled living off the grid to be more affordable than ever before. SAPS can now be amortised within a decade rather than a century and with rising electricity prices and the move to renewable energies, they are becoming more and more popular.

The successful design of a SAPS relies on a well resolved balance between the PV array, Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT), Battery Bank, Inverter/Charger and Genset.

The SAPS provides power to your house by routing DC electricity produced by the solar panel array to a MPPT charge controller, which regulates and optimises the charging of a deep cycle battery bank. This battery bank then supplies power to the house via the inverter which converts the DC battery power into your standard 240V/50Hz AC Â mains power allowing you to run and operate standard 240V white goods and appliances.

Should the array be incapable of charging the batteries due to periods of extended rain or overcast weather, the system controller advises that the genset should be started to top up the battery bank. This typically takes 4-5hours of charging from the generator to completely restore the battery bank to full charge which will allow the system to produce continual power to the house for an extended period of 3 days without charge from the array.

This system generates 4-5Kwhs of power per day and is ideal for running the basic load requirements of a small cabin or cottage such as a small efficient 240V fridge, LED lighting, 26” LCD tv, laptop computer, stereo, efficient washing machine and small water pump.

This system is eligible for 31 STCs and includes the following basic setup;

  • 12V
  • 400Ah Battery Bank

3KW Weekender (1-2 Persons)

This system generates 12-13Kwhs of power per day and is ideal for a small efficient family home. It will run the basic load requirements such a large efficient 240V fridge, freezer, LED lighting, 36”LCD TV, computer, stereo, small toaster, washing machine, ceiling fans and a efficient water pump.

This system is eligible for 62 STCs and includes the following basic setup;

4.5KW Large Eco Home (3-4 Persons)

This system generates 16-18Kwhs of power per day and is ideal for a large efficient family home. It will run the basic load requirements such a large efficient 240V fridge, freezer, efficient chest freezer, LED lighting, 46”LCD TV, computer, stereo, washing machine, small toaster, coffee machine, ceiling fans efficient water pump and most modern conveniences for a standard home

This system is eligible for 93 STCs and includes the following basic setup;

6KW Luxury Eco Home (4-6 Persons)

This system generates 24-26Kwhs of power per day and is ideal for a large luxury family home. It will run all the load requirements of a typical mains connected house such a large efficient 240V fridge/freezer, efficient chest freezer, LED lighting, 2-3 LCD TVs, computers, stereo, washing machine, dishwasher, toaster, coffee machine, kitchen appliances, ceiling fans, electric kettle, efficient water pump and most modern conveniences for a standard home
